Bloomberg reported on June 8 that Moonshot AI, the Beijing-based developer behind the Kimi chatbot, is in talks to raise as much as $2 billion at a $30 billion valuation. The report puts this as the company's third financing in six months. A $500 million tranche in late 2025 anchored a $4.3 billion valuation. A February round co-led by Alibaba, 5Y Capital, and Andon Health took the company to roughly $10 billion. A pending Meituan-led round had it at $20 billion. The new target is $30 billion, against annualized revenue that topped $200 million in April after roughly doubling from $100 million at the start of March.
Doubling annualized recurring revenue inside two months is the kind of inflection that translates immediately into compute procurement. Frontier labs at this scale do not buy their way to $30 billion valuations by holding back on accelerator orders. For Moonshot specifically, the procurement options are constrained by export controls following the Commerce Department's Malaysia loophole closure, which means a larger share of the buildout has to be sourced inside China.
The cooling industry implication is straightforward. A well-funded Chinese frontier lab buying domestic accelerators pulls cooling demand into the domestic vendor base. We have covered the Chinese liquid-cooling supply chain catching the AI build and the Shanghai Hailanyun subsea reference design. Moonshot's funding is the demand side that pairs with those supply-side stories. Western cooling vendors selling into Chinese end users through indirect channels can read this as a harder competitive environment, not an easier one.
Two markers worth tracking. The first is whether the $30 billion round closes at the targeted level or trims, which will tell you how aggressively Chinese growth capital is pricing AI labs against the US comparison set. The second is named compute partnerships. If Moonshot signs a multi-year accelerator and cooling commitment to a domestic provider, that contract sets the public benchmark for Chinese AI infrastructure procurement for the next eighteen months. The cooling line item inside that commitment is the one to read.
