India Jumped From 10 kW Racks to 150 kW GPU Clusters. The Partner Ecosystem Has Two Years to Catch Up.

Indian data centers spent the last fifteen years optimizing for rack densities between 5 and 10 kW. The AI procurement cycle now arriving puts GPU clusters at up to 150 kW per rack in the same facilities. That is a fifteen-fold density jump inside buildings, power systems, and operations teams that were never built for it. The CRN Asia analysis lays out what that reset actually means for operators, partners, and the hyperscalers buying capacity.

Nitin Jadhav, Chief Revenue Officer and President at Yotta Data Services, put the deal size in context. AI transactions are running two to four times the size of traditional enterprise deployments. Arif Khan, India Sales Director at Colt Data Centre Services, described cooling architecture moving from a technical footnote to a primary deal qualifier. Narendra Sen, founder and CEO of Rackbank, said partner skill sets will need two to three years to evolve into the roles AI infrastructure actually requires. None of those statements are marketing. They are forecasts from the people writing the deals.

The Cooling Architecture Problem

A 150 kW rack cannot be cooled with air. The laws of heat transfer run out somewhere around 40 kW per rack with aggressive contained hot aisle design, and every GPU generation after H100 pushes further past that limit. Indian operators ramping to AI density have two options. Build greenfield with direct-to-chip or hybrid liquid architecture, or retrofit existing facilities with liquid cooling on top of air-cooled shells. Both paths require engineering and labor categories that barely existed in the Indian data center workforce eighteen months ago.

The CRN piece notes that operators are implementing hybrid cooling designs using standardized reference architectures, adapted for local Indian conditions. That adaptation is not trivial. Ambient temperatures in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Chennai push 40 degrees Celsius in summer, which means water-side economizer hours are compressed compared to European or North American deployments. The reference designs shipped from Schneider, Vertiv, and Delta need local tuning, and the engineers who can do that tuning are in high demand and short supply.

Partner Role Redefinition

The more interesting read in the CRN analysis is what happens to the partner channel. Traditional colocation provisioning is becoming commoditized, which means the old partner margin on rack space and power delivery is thinning. The value is moving up the stack into architecture design, GPU workload optimization, thermal planning, and end-to-end managed services for generative AI deployments taking use cases from proof-of-concept to production on sovereign infrastructure.

That is a different partner than the one that existed in 2024. Partners who can lead thermal planning for a 150 kW rack, specify CDU capacity against GPU workloads, and manage the operational handoff from build to steady-state get the margin. Partners who still think of themselves as rack-and-power resellers get squeezed out.

Data Sovereignty Is the Other Shift

Regulatory compliance and data sovereignty have moved from negotiable to required across Indian AI deployments. That favors domestic operators like Yotta and Rackbank, and it shapes how hyperscalers engage. AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud are layering on top of sovereign infrastructure rather than competing directly for the full stack. The responsibility split now reads: operators own infrastructure architecture and compliance, partners lead application integration and managed services, hyperscalers engage at the cloud services layer.

That structure reshapes cooling procurement. The operator is the buyer of the thermal architecture. The partner influences it. The hyperscaler sets the density and workload envelope the architecture has to support. Vendors selling cooling infrastructure into India need to sell to all three audiences with different framing for each.

Who Wins the Two-Year Window

Sen's two-to-three-year partner skill evolution timeline is generous. The operators who spec their cooling architecture this year will be commissioning in 2027, which means the labor force has to be trained now. Yotta, CtrlS, NTT Global, and a handful of others have been building operations teams around liquid cooling for the last eighteen months. Those operators will be ready to accept 150 kW racks when Rubin-class hardware arrives. The rest will spend 2027 explaining to customers why their GPU clusters are throttling.

The Indian AI buildout is one of the fastest-moving data center markets in the world right now, and the cooling decisions being made in the next six months will set the vendor map for the next decade. The operators who move first on direct-to-chip and hybrid liquid architectures will define the reference designs. Everyone else will retrofit on someone else's timeline.
